In The Quest for El Dorado, players take the roles of expedition leaders who have embarked on a search for the legendary land of gold in the dense jungles of South America. Each player assembles and equips their own team, hiring various helpers from the scout to the scientist to the aborigine. All of them have one goal in mind: Reaching the golden border first and winning all of the riches for themselves. Whoever chooses the best tactics will be rewarded!
 
Cards provide a movement to a green jungle space, a blue water space or a yellow desert space. Movement is dictated by the necessity of certain cards being used. Symbols on the board dictate the value of the card required to move onto that space. All cards can additionally be converted to money. Any two cards are worth one coin or the desert cards are worth the coin value stated on them. As money, the cards can be used to purchase other cards from the marketplace.

The game plays equally well at two as it does four. The Quest for El Dorado also works well for experienced gamers and those relatively new to the hobby too.
